Rockstar announced the date on 6 November 2025, after moving the game from its original 2025 window and then from 26 May 2026. Take-Two reaffirmed 19 November in its Q1 FY2027 results on 7 August 2026, tying its full-year outlook to the launch.
There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version. The PS5 release covers the PS5 Pro.
As of 12 August 2026 Rockstar has published no PC release date, storefront listing or system requirements. Any PC date circulating online is speculation. For context — not a commitment — GTA V reached PC about 18 months after its console launch.
Confirmed on 24 June 2026, with pre-orders opening the next day. The Ultimate Edition is digital-only and bundles vehicles, weapons and apparel across Jason and Lucia's story. Digital pre-orders include one month of GTA+.
Boxed copies contain a code rather than game data. Pre-loading begins 12 November 2026, a week before launch.
Rockstar announced on 6 August 2026 that the video debuts on Netflix at 3:00 PM ET with roughly six hours of exclusivity, then arrives on Rockstar's YouTube channel and the official site at 9:00 PM ET. It is the first time Rockstar has debuted GTA footage on a third-party streaming service.
Rockstar's store listing describes a single-player experience, and no online mode is bundled at launch. Rockstar has not announced when — or whether — a GTA Online successor follows.
Leonida is Rockstar's fictional Florida. Six regions are officially named: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.
Lucia is the first female protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto. Rockstar confirms a dual-protagonist structure with character switching, though the switching mechanics themselves have not been shown.
Rockstar says the map is larger than GTA V's but has never published a number. Community figures — commonly around 125 km², or roughly 2.5× GTA V — come from reading RAGE engine coordinates in the 2022 leak. In 2026 the main fan mapping project removed Leonida's entire panhandle because no official material ever evidenced it, which makes earlier estimates unreliable.
Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, the most reliably sourced reporter on Rockstar, said that as of his most recent reporting the game was still not content complete, with missions and levels being finalised. This is journalism, not a Rockstar statement.
Take-Two has never published a development cost. Estimates above $1 billion are widely cited and would likely make GTA 6 the most expensive game ever produced, but the specific figures circulating — including “$2 billion” — trace to aggregator blogs rather than any primary source.
